Give the app icon a white background and a two-tone, 3D-looking vault

Description

Bradley doesn't like the current icon, which has had an aqua-to-blue background since VAULT-13 (#595). Give it a white background again, and make the vault itself richer.

The design:

  • Background: white, as before #595. It can have a very subtle gradient to keep some depth, but it should read as white.
  • Two tones: give the lock/vault glyph two tones instead of one flat black metal.
  • Border: the door's outer border stays black.
  • Dial: give the wheel a stronger gradient, so it looks three-dimensional, like a turned metal dial catching light. Keep it clean and tasteful rather than skeuomorphic clutter.

Where it's drawn: the icon is drawn in SwiftUI in Vault/Sources/VaultAppIcon. The colours live in VaultAppIconAppearance / VaultAppIconPalette, and the shapes in Shapes/.

Everything to update:

  • Every appearance: the default, dark (transparent background, coloured glyph) and tinted (grayscale) icons all need rethinking for the new look.
  • Generated assets: regenerate the app icon assets from the SwiftUI source, the same way #595 did.
  • Everywhere the glyph appears: check the lock glyph wherever it's used: the decrypt animation (#601), and the app lock screen if VAULT-21 has landed.

Tests: re-record the icon snapshots, and include before and after renders of each appearance at Home Screen size.

Fixed in https://github.com/badbundle/vault-app/pull/620 (merged as 77ca0752).

  • Background: the icon is back on white, fading slightly towards the bottom.
  • Two tones: a black frame (silver in the dark icon) and a blue wheel. The tinted icon uses two grey levels.
  • 3D dial: each part of the wheel is shaded separately. The spokes are lit like cylinders, the hub and knobs are domed, with turned-metal streaks and a lit/shaded rim. There are no blurs or shadows.
  • In the app: the same drawing is used for locked and encrypted items and on the app lock screen.
  • Colour choice: blue was picked over steel and brass because it holds contrast on white at small sizes.
